Mohammad Ahmed Suleiman is a Qatari middle-distance runner that won Qatar its first Olympic medal ever. He was a Syrian Brigadier General and Special Presidential Advisor for Arms Procurement and Strategic Weapons to President Bashar al-Assad. He was killed in Tartus, Syria on 1 August 2008 in an Israeli special forces operation. He won a bronze medal in the 1500 meter race at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He was the first Olympic medalist from Qatar. He also ran in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. In 1992, he achieved the greatest success of his career when he won the bronze medal in the Barcelona Olympics thus becoming the first-ever Olympic medallist for Qatar.
