I attended the JW Turner exhibition today, 18/11/2022, and herein express my disappointment. Firstly, I am a resident of the Colonnades, in the same building as the Tate, but no concessions for local community was provided. This I knew from previous visits, in which I was similarly disappointed. For the cost of entry the exhibition was not only paltry, but extremely limited; Turner had an amazing versatility covering many different scapes, but all that was on display were some thumbnail sketches and a number of scenes depicting turbulent seas, which were aptly described as being close to 'abstract', which description I can align with. Further, the framing glass is reflective and the lighting, not at all sympathetic with the display, was quite disturbing and intrusive on many of the smaller paintings. In my humble opinion, the Tate is capitalising on the international, and some local, visitors who just want the experience of having been to a Tate. This is exploitation of the brand.
