Maurizio Damilano is an Italian former race walker. He won 15 individual medals, at senior level, at the International athletics competitions. Maurizio Damilano is most famous for being a highly successful Italian race walker, particularly known for winning the Olympic gold medal in the 20km walk at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, where he achieved an upset victory after the initial leaders were disqualified; he also won multiple World Championship titles and Olympic medals throughout his career. Maurizio Damilano and his twin brother Giorgio had started race walking together. Coached by their older brother Sandro, they both competed in the 1980 Olympics. Maurizio scored an upset victory after the leaders, Bautista and Solomin had been disqualified. Damilano set nine World Records (all on the track) and won a total of 21 Italian titles.
