Manuela Di Centa is an Italian former cross-country skier and Olympic athlete. She is the sister of former cross-country skier Giorgio Di Centa and cousin of former track and field athlete Venanzio Ortis. She is most famous for being a highly successful Italian cross-country skier, particularly recognized for winning five Olympic medals at a single Winter Olympics in Lillehammer 1994 - a unique achievement in the sport, where she won gold medals in the 15km and 30km events; she also became the first Italian woman to climb Mount Everest, further adding to her fame. At the age of four, Di Centa took her first steps on a pair of red wooden skis made for her by her grandfather. Her talent was quick to shine through and by the age of 17 she was already representing Italy in international cross-country competitions. Seven-time Olympic cross-country skiing medallist, Manuela Di Centa went on to plant the Olympic flag on the roof of the world in 2003.
