Kamla Nehru Zoological Garden was established in the year 1951 by Rueben David who was awarded Padma Shri in 1974 for it. It is spraed over a huge area of 117 acres and is located on the outskirts of Kankaria Lake in Ahmedabad. Started with the purpose of recreation but presently aims at preservation of endangered species and Research in order to save them from extinction. It was awarded as the best zoo award in Asia in 1974. There are many activities like boating, musical fountain with laser show, Water park, amusement park, butterfly park, Rasala nature park, Naginvadi etc. During May to December every year visitors can witness many birds on the trees of the zoo which include Egrets, Night Heron, Painted Stork, Spoonbill etc. It is a paragon for many wild animals including anaconda, bush quail, chinkara, elephants, emu, jungle babbler, lion, peacock, python, rhesus monkey, snakes, white blackbuck etc. It has a full fledged veterinary Hospital in the premises with all modern facilities.
